Another Future Flavas show hosted by Marley Marl and Pete Rock. This show, recorded on April, 8, 2001 proved why Hot 97 was the spot for Sunday nights. Pete Rock goes in with the doubles, scratching and exclusives--Krs One, Common, Bumpy Knuckles, Hi-Tek, etc.

Hey radio world, this one's for you

Future Flavsssssssss. I understand the mass appeal of the current top 40/itunes charts in the radio biz, but what's the deal with not throwing this type of program on every station worldwide?

This is your typical raw street hip hop mix show hosted by Marley Marl and a few of his boys (Pete Rock is out of town this night, djing at an All-Star game party). With this show, you get your dose of MOPs, Fredro Stars!!, Royce, a call in, station ID's, doubles, "future flavas" drops and exxxxxclusives (at the time).

Nothing quite like being in NYC on Sunday nights listening to Hot 97 at 10pm.

This mix will never get old. Now, I wasn't living in NY during the time, but I think the gist of the story goes something like this. ..

Marley Marl started out as the on-air DJ for Mr. Magic's Rap Attack in the mid-80's on 107.5 WBLS, every Friday and Saturday from 9pm-midnight. This show rivaled Red Alert's KISS fm show which help fuel the classic Juice Crew vs. BDP beef.

Soon after (1987), Marley Marl took over hosting duties, changed the name to In Control With Marley Marl, and hired a 17 year old Pete Rock to resume dj duties.

I have dozens of WBLS and KISS recordings from the 80's and early 90's and will post soon.

You have to love the 2+ minute intro followed by the Chubb Rock cassette/poster give away.
